The woods are lovely dark and
deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”

Endovascular surgery brings to the table well - documented benefits in minimally invasiveness and non- inferiority to traditional, open surgically approaches, but only when used in the appropriate patient, planned correctly, and performed flawlessly, since it in itself is not devoid of pitfalls and treacherous complications to the unwary. A recently released meta-analysis reported that poorer outcomes were seen with surgery after failed endovascular intervention vs primary surgery (Hossein, leBlanc, Farber, et al, 2018 Nov EJVES), which underscores how inappropriately applied endovascular procedures will not provide its supposed benefits.
The MILES curriculum emphasizes preparation, planning, and application of appropriate technology and techniques to particular patient factors in order to assure better outcomes for the endovascular approach. Intensive didactics followed by supervised hands on applications will familiarize the operator with the specific technical nuances of the different technologies available for aortic and peripheral endovascular devices for various index vascular conditions.
In
the PSVES-MILES workshop, experience firsthand how to
avoid the pitfalls, in a safe and controlled environment under close
supervision by the experts, before going on to the next step: performing
mentor-assisted endovascular procedures on your own patients under the ACES program.
Towards
the aim of imparting the knowledge, skills, and attitude to all of you who
would embrace endovascular surgery for the betterment of your patients, PSVES enjoins you to take advantage of
this offering.
Hoping to learn and work with all
of you soon,
Ricardo
