2nd INTER – HOSPITAL GRAND ROUNDS

Ortigas, Pasig City – Last May 26, 2018,  the Second Inter – Hospital Grand Rounds happened at the Marco Polo Hotel, Pasig City.  True to its commitment to continue educating our colleagues, the Society facilitated this activity.  Hosted by the Section of Vascular Surgery of The Medical City, as part of the Vascular Surgery Consortium of The Medical City – Rizal Medical Center – Quirino Memorial Medical Center.

Two interesting cases of aneurysms were presented.  The first one was a case of a 27 year old male who developed a pulsatile hematoma over the right chest wall after incurring multiple stab wounds.  Operative management for subclavian artery pseudo – aneurysm was presented by Dr. Mark Lim of the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.  The second case was presented by Dr. Jeffrey Ang of The Medical City and it was an under – diagnosed case of descending thoracic aneurysm in a 56 year old male.  Endovascular management was discussed thoroughly.

There were three esteemed colleagues who served as reactors for the cases. These were Dr. Adrian Desquitado of the Asian Hospital Medical Center, Dr. Eduardo Tuazon of the Philippine Heart Center and Dr. Allan Dante Concejero of the UP - Philippine General Hospital.  Dr. Desquitado shared his experience in the management of the subclavian artery pseudoaneurysm.  The UP – PGH group presented their experience in management of thoracic aortic aneurysms, both utilizing open, traditional technique and endovascular repair.  Dr.  Tuazon, on the other hand, shared his experience in management of a TEVAR that had gone wrong and how he shifted his strategy to manage the case and improve the outcome for the patient.

Attendees of the 2nd Inter-Hospital GR
Distinguished personalities and member of the Senior Advisory Council of the PSVES in the Vascular Surgery community were present to share their expertise, among others, including Dr. Enrique T. Ona, the former Department of Health Secretary, and Dr. Rose Marie R. Liquete, the current Executive Officer of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. Both served as past presidents of the Philippine Society for Vascular Surgery.

Indeed the second meeting of the mind became a big hit for all its attendees.  It became another venue for liberal exchange of ideas, where transference of learning became positive for its participants.
