Pasig City – Last May 26, 2018, the Second
Inter – Hospital Grand Rounds happened at the Marco Polo Hotel, Pasig
City. True to its commitment to continue
educating our colleagues, the Society facilitated this activity. Hosted by the Section of Vascular Surgery of The
Medical City, as part of the Vascular
Surgery Consortium of The Medical
City – Rizal Medical Center – Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
Two
interesting cases of aneurysms were presented.
The first one was a case of a 27 year old male who developed a pulsatile
hematoma over the right chest wall after incurring multiple stab wounds. Operative management for subclavian artery
pseudo – aneurysm was presented by Dr.
Mark Lim of the Quirino Memorial
Medical Center. The second case was
presented by Dr. Jeffrey Ang of The Medical City and it was an under –
diagnosed case of descending thoracic aneurysm in a 56 year old male. Endovascular management was discussed
thoroughly.

There were
three esteemed colleagues who served as reactors for the cases. These were Dr. Adrian Desquitado of the Asian Hospital Medical Center, Dr. Eduardo Tuazon of the Philippine Heart Center and Dr. Allan Dante Concejero of the UP - Philippine General Hospital. Dr. Desquitado shared his experience in the
management of the subclavian artery pseudoaneurysm. The UP – PGH group presented their experience
in management of thoracic aortic aneurysms, both utilizing open, traditional
technique and endovascular repair.
Dr. Tuazon, on the other hand,
shared his experience in management of a TEVAR that had gone wrong and how he
shifted his strategy to manage the case and improve the outcome for the
patient.

Distinguished
personalities and member of the Senior
Advisory Council of the PSVES in the Vascular Surgery community were
present to share their expertise, among others, including Dr. Enrique T. Ona, the former
Department of Health Secretary, and Dr.
Rose Marie R. Liquete, the current
Executive Officer of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute. Both
served as past presidents of the Philippine Society for Vascular Surgery.
Indeed the second
meeting of the mind became a big hit for all its attendees. It became another venue for liberal exchange
of ideas, where transference of learning became positive for its participants.
