ADVOCACY OF PSVES AND SALAMAT DOK

Quezon City – Information about vascular disease had become easily available for the Filipinos.  The internet has somehow bridged the gap of accessibility of information and the patients’ need to quench their thirst for knowledge.  However, it also became a double-edged sword for the practitioners of the discipline involved in management of such diseases.  Somehow, it has become paralyzing for the community since it promotes unreasonable demand to achieve “the perfect” management for and of the patients.

To promote, foster and develop better knowledge of scientific principles and the art of Vascular and Endovascular surgery has been one of the trusts of the Society.  Educating the community, both patients and doctors alike has been encouraged and supported by the Society.  In two (2) separate interviews in ABS – CBN’s Salamat Dok, Dr. Rainan G. Gloria was given the opportunity to promote different causes of the Society.

Mr.  Olchico, Ms. Sembrano and Dr. Gloria
Last September 21, 2018, Dr. Rainan G. Gloria was given a venue to talk about aortic aneurysms.  He talked about how the condition is diagnosed, its common symptoms and signs.  He emphasized how it can debilitate the patients and his family when left undiagnosed and leads to rupture.  He encouraged early detection by undergoing abdominal aortic screening.  He also discussed its management, employing the open but the more invasive techniques and the minimally invasive, endovascular technique.  By clarifying information about aortic aneurysms, he, indeed enlightened his audience.

Salamat Dok (Thank You, Doctor) is a show from ABS – CBN and airs on early Saturday and Sunday mornings.  It takes its pride as the “only live magazine health program” where it educates its audience on aspects of public service, medical health information, alternative approaches and practical home remedy tips.  The program also provides free on-air consultations with the help medical experts as resource persons and give free medical assistance through weekly free clinics inside the ABS-CBN Compound.
