Vigan
City, Ilocos Sur- The Society took a
different path this year and participated in the Philippine College of Surgeons Midyear Congress with the theme
“Enhancing the Culture of Safety in Surgery” at Vigan Convention Center -
Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last May 6, 2018. Entitled “Sugat sa Paa: Current Trends in Management of Vasculopathic
Foot Ulcers,” the session focused on the diagnosis and management of foot
ulcers.
The
session opened with lectures from Dr.
Marc Anter E. Mejes and Dr. Rainan
G. Gloria. Dr. Mejes, a Vascular and
Transplant surgeon at the National Kidney and Transplant Institution, delivered
a lecture on the recognition and diagnosis of foot ulcers. Dr. Gloria, on the other hand, discussed the
merits of revascularization of the lower extremity in management of diabetic
foot.

Dr. Susan F. Labuntog presented a case of a 65 year old man who underwent several revascularization procedures of the lower extremity for management of a non – healing foot ulcer. The case was discussed extensively at an interdisciplinary level with discussants from different field of medicine and surgery. The discussants were Dr. Martin Michael Baccay, a Cardio-thoracic – Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Benito VC. Purugganan Jr, a Transplant and Vascular Surgeon, Dr. Joy M. Gali, a Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, Dr. Lorenzana Evangelina Pipo, an Endocrinologist and Dr. Joyce Urnos – Santos, an Infectious Disease specialist.
A
lunch symposium was held at Ciudad Fernandina Hotel- Annex Building sponsored
by Getz Healthcare.
